| | It must be funny in a rich man's world. The first week of classes is done. Professors have been met (most of them anyway), rooms have been visited, money has been given (hello, allowance!), classmates have been judged (hehe), stories have been shared, body clocks have (hopefully) adjusted, and of course, reference books have been assigned. Oh my goodness, those reference books. Those effing reference books! Let me give you a quick rundown of how much those reference books cost (crossed out = bought): Biochemistry, Boyer; Chem 40; Php 1330 (if bought at ChemSoc)/ Php 1500
Principles of Anatomy and Physiology, Tortora and Grabowski; FN 14; Php 2296 (!) Guzman's Introduction to Food Preparation, Fojas-Luna; FN 11; Php 425 Basic Foods for Filipinos, Chavez, de Leon, and Claudio; FN 11; Php 625 Total, so far (emphasis on "so far")? Php 5376. WTF?! It's not like books are the only thing I, and every other student, need to buy for school. My parents and I are currently spending a mini-fortune on readings, lab manuals, modules, a water noodle, chemistry supplies... The list could go on, but I don't want to think about all the money being spent. (If you're wondering why the sentence before the last started with "my parents and I are", it's because I buy some school stuff [like the "cheaper" books, modules, readings etc.] without reimbursing the cost. I think of it as my little way of helping them.) A couple of days ago, Mom and I went to the mall. I showed her the "This is not a shoe. It's a mania." chucks that I wanted sooo bad. They were quite expensive (almost Php 3000), so of course Mom and Dad (via text) said no. I was a bit sad, a bit frustrated, but Dad said we were on a tight budget. Imagine my surprise when I found out that Principles of Anatomy and Physiology (it's a medical book, BTW) was about the same price, even a bit cheaper, than those TINAS,IAM chucks that I still want so bad. I was so annoyed at myself, for some reason. I was wearing my beige-ish chucks that day, and everytime I looked at them, the only thing I could think of was "reference book". I'm a greedy, selfish person. Ack. I can't even bring myself to ask for new shoes, new clothes, new [non-reference] books, new movies, or new music CDs anymore! *Sigh*. CWTS tomorrow. If I need a reference book for that too, I might strangle someone. My prof, maybe. Hehe. PS My stomach's acting up. Dad's, too. Curse you, sourdough bread! Happy Father's day to all the fathers out there! I hope you're bonding in a different way than Dad and I, with our upset stomachs. Hahaha. |
